Hi!
I'm Mike Haffner and this is Cathy next to me in the picture, my second wife. To tell you a little about
us let's start with me.
In high school and college I ran on the track teams, running cross
country, indoor and outdoor track. I was a city & state champion and
record holder in the 880 yard run and mile in high school. In 1967 I
received a Track Scholarship to University of Alabama lettering three
years in cross country and outdoor track and have a BS Degree In
Industrial Arts in Secondary Education and four years of great
memories.
On July 15, 1971 my senior year of college at around 3:00 PM, I was on
a motorcycle going back to a summer job when a car pull out into my
path, my speed was around 55 mph. There was no choice but to hit the
car leaving me paralyzed below the waist at the T9-T10 level.
Now thirty-seven years later after different jobs I started working
out of my home on Tripod and eBay with Cathy helping me. The Apostil Paul did Tent Making in his Ministry and so am I but
it's Jewelry and General Goods. Cathy, whom I met fourteen
years ago, and I dated off and on till June 25, 1998 when we were
married. Cathy has Mild Cerebral Palsy from birth. She graduated from
Auburn University with a BS degree in Child Psychology which she used
to teach kindergarten for a local Baptist Church.
For you Auburn fans she says "WAR
EAGLE"!!! as I say "ROLL TIDE"!!! what "fun" we have in November.
Cathy is a treasure to have to work with and at the same time a
loving wife.
I believe I became a Christian at three years of age when two teenage boys
told me I would go to hell if I crossed over into the circle
that was a water trench dug around a Tree, and It did Scare me but I knew God Loved me and I held onto that.
Some seven years later when waiting to going to confession in the Catholic
Church God spoke to me and asked me what Omnipresent meant to me, I told Him it meant you
were every where, He asked why was I going to confession since I could pray and talk and
ask Him for forgiveness anywhere.
Seven years later in the spring of 1967 in a Methodist Church at a evening service, I was a member of, there was given an
alter call and I asked God to take Control Of my Life for He had made me a Champion in Life and Athletics and I wanted Thank
Him and to let Him run it.
Three Years went by and a student of U of A came to my dorm room in Paty Hall in college and shared with me about Jesus and
asked me If I would like to ask Him into my Heart, I told him I already knew Jesus He left me a track and a Bible called Good
News for Modern Men, which latter would be the first time in my life to read the New Testament.
You see later that year I marred my first wife and we divorced after nine months of marriage. Then I was hurt in the wreck
and was trying to reconcile the marriage. After the wreck I went to the “Spain Rehabilitation Center” here in
Birmingham at which time I read “Good News for Modern Man” to find a way to again to reconcile, but we both messed
up overall but, I the most, so she had the right to divorce.
The next year I was lonely and miserable and empty inside and except ‘Glory to God’ I was in Grad School, at
U of A which made me feel good even tough it was only for one semester, for I didn’t maintain a “B” average
so I was dropped at the end of the fall semester. That Fall in 1973 on a Saturday afternoon I was flipping the TV channels
and came across Billy Graham, He was talking about life with Jesus that had meaning and purpose, and peace and joy all of
which I was out of at that moment so when he lead in prayer I prayed and now as I look back I put a stake in the ground.
Finally on December 31, 1976 about 11:00pm I sat in my wheelchair in the livening room of my parents home Counting the cost
and Knowing What I was doing I asked Jesus Christ into my Life to be my savior and onto the thrown of my Heart for I had forgotten
all about the other times I had asked Him in. Again I look back on this as a Final Steak in the ground which was where I woke
up spiritually and have not forgotten over these thirty seven years I've come to see these other times as times of growth
and now I have grown to know I'll will keep growing in Jesus.
Cathy says and I quote ”I best remember praying with Mike one fall afternoon of 1995 in the parking lot of Minor High
School in Adamsville, Alabama asking Jesus into my heart and on the throne of my life.” Mike was attending a nondenominational
church and I was attending a Catholic church there in Adamsville at that time. We met in a Presbyterian Church that Mike was
a member of but is not now, it had a Handicapped Ministry and a handicapped member named Elizabeth that I had become friends
with, had been inviting me to the meetings. That was 1994 or 95 Mike and I started dating about then. We were married in 1998
as you can see I’m new at this.
Mike loves the Bible and encouraging people both that are in and out of Jesus and has this Ministry.
